About Me

Warning: This page is really long. I peppered it with jokes to make it more interesting, and there's a surprise at the end.

Hi! I'm Sophia-Rose - well, not really. I suppose I should explain my name. Simply put, Sophia-Rose is a fresh and new pen name, made up of my two favorite pen names. Rose came first. I can't remember how or why I chose it, but I've had it for a few years, and it's stuck ever since. Of course, that was before I started playing Wizard101.

Sophia EmeraldBlossom
I remember making my first character. I randomly selected a name, and the last name came up on EmeraldBlossom. I liked it, so I searched the first names for Rose so I could finish. To my surprise (and somewhat dismay) Rose wasn't an available name option. I settled with Sophia because it sounded good.

Now, a year and a half later, Sophia has stuck even more than Rose. When the time came to create this blog, I was torn between my beloved wizard character and my ties to my oldest pen name. What better way to balance it out than combine them both?

But that's enough about my name. (I promise I won't go on as long about all the other things I want to include here.) In fact, I'll even let you know how the rest of this page will work: my history of blogging, my history of writing, and top ten things you probably don't know about me. Does that sound good?

I started playing Wizard101 in early September of 2011, and a few months later I started a blog about it since I thought the other ones I'd found were really cool. (Sadly, most of these other ones have quit by now.)
Within days of starting up, I got 20 followers and became one of the most popular bloggers of the spiral! Well...no. Here's what really happened: My blog failed for a while. My best friend, Elizabeth GoldenThistle, (who is also using a pen name that I won't go into,) was my only follower for a couple of months. Then, I started posting more and got a brilliant idea: "Hey! I like Emma DawnRider's blog a lot! Why don't I follow it and start commenting? Maybe she'll follow me back!" I started searching for other blogs I liked, and before long I had four followers.

My wizard blog has been great fun. It's had nearly 150 posts so far and has been running for over two years. I also started a fanfiction, The Greatest Treasure, which was fun for awhile but I eventually quit after deciding I didn't like it much anymore.

That brings us quite neatly to the topic of writing! It all began when I was five years old. I don't know why, but I wanted to write a story. I got some pieces of paper and a pencil, and began writing in my huge, error-filled little kid writing that was surprisingly neat for someone my age. Lila was born. (More on that in the Stories of the Past page.) I wrote Lila for a few years, then moved on to various hand-written and illustrated projects. Although my handwriting and story design gradually got neater, my drawings never did. (They never were horrible, but that's why I mostly do computer graphics nowadays.)

Then, one Christmas Day, Elizabeth GoldenThistle passed me a printed copy of a story she'd written for me. I stared at the perfectly neat print and the fancy chapter headings. That's when it hit me. I could write stories on the computer, too!

That's when things really started to pick up, writing-wise. If you want to know more about previous projects, those are in Stories of the Past.

Anyway, last November my fellow 101 blogger D. S. Devereaux decided to do NaNoWriMo. I'll admit, the prospect intimidated me, and I didn't really want to do it - at least, not that year. I became somewhat aggravated when I started having all these great ideas halfway through November. I got a chance to improve and refine those same ideas throughout the winter, and I won Camp NaNo April with them! The novel came out a bit short, but was better after I edited it. Although it was much better in pretty much every respect, I've decided it still needs a complete rewrite due to plot and voice issues.

Now for the moment you've all been waiting for: Top Ten Things You Probably Don't Know About Me!
10. I'm a young teenager. Most people who meet me assume I'm a few years older than I actually am.
9. I don't look much like my wizard. My skin is lighter and I messed up the hair color. (It's supposed to be brown.) I do have brown eyes, though.
8. I have one cat. She is adorable and gray. I once had a puppy, but he was a disaster and my family gave him to relatives.
7. I play 3 1/2 instruments: Viola (fairly good at it), Piano (not very good at it), Ukulele (just started) and Recorder (just for fun.) Recorder's the 1/2 instrument. All but viola are self-taught, and I haven't played the Recorder in years.
6. I like to pretend that I'm not afraid of bugs and spiders, but it's just one big lie.
5. I'm about 3 grades ahead in math. Advanced algebra = tedious pain. At least I'm good at it.
4. I've nearly died (literally) about three times. Those are good stories in themselves. Perhaps I'll share them later.
3. Although I'm somewhat boisterous and like to crack jokes online, I'm EXTREMELY shy in real life and don't talk much at all. As in, when meeting new people I only answer their questions with one or two words and try to escape as soon as possible. It's just nerves.
2. I'm left-handed, so I have to cope with a world built for right-handed people. It's a bit tedious, especially with regards to scissors, but at least it makes me interesting!
1. Green is not my favorite color. Blue is. (Ha! Even Elizabeth didn't know that one!)

Thanks for reading this long and drawn-out about me post! If you got this far, you deserve a virtual cookie.
